Results! West Schools Qualifier
The West of Scotland Regional Schools Qualifier took place at Drumchapel High School on 20th January with a total entry of 53 players.
Under 18 Boys
This was played in two groups with the top seed in each group, Scott Barton and Alex Wheeler, coming out on top. Cross over semi finals saw Alex defeat Sep Badari in five sets and Scott win in straight sets against Connor Moran. In the final Scott won the first two ends but Alex rallied to take the third. Scott then won a closely contested fourth game to win the title.
Under 16 Boys
The format was the same as the under 18 boys. In the semi finals Justin Yang overcame Mitchell McCluckie 3-0 as did Callum Ralston against Craig Smith. After a very tight 13-11 win in the first game of the final, Justin ran away with the next two games to win.
Under 14 Boys
This was played in groups of five with the top two from each group progressing to the quarter finals. Greg Robertson won 12-10 in the fifth against Conor Doherty, Yaser Rasouk had a straight sets win over James Woods, Stewart Horsfall just won through against Shreenil Vani, 11-9 in the fifth and finally Ross Thom won comfortably against James Stokes. The semi finals paired Stewart against Greg with Stewart winning 3-0. Yaser also won through 3-0 against Ross. The final was a one sided affair, Yaser dominating from the start and running out a comfortable winner although recognition must be paid to Stewart for his achievement in reaching the final.
Under 14 Girls
This was played in a single group. Courteney Hamilton nearly caused an upset against Emma Rhind but Emma managed to get across the winning line, just! Emma also won against Lauren Shaw and Alisa Khalid in straight games. Nadia Doherty was in commanding form winning well against Alisa, Courteney and Lauren to set up the last match against Emma where Nadia proved to be too strong winning 3-0.
The Under 16 and Under 18 Girls events were not played due to a low entry.

Open Doubles
To round off the day we had the Open Doubles. No surprises in the early rounds so by the semi final it was established faces. The first semi saw Cameron Hussain and Justin Yang win in straight sets against Ross Thom and Conor Doherty. In the other semi Alex Wheeler and James Woods faced off against the defending champions Yaser Razouk and Greg Robertson, the latter pair winning in 4 to set up the final. In the final Cameron and Justin won the first and held several game points for a 2-0 lead but couldn’t convert any of these so the match was levelled at 1-1. Yaser and Greg then grew in confidence and ran out 3-1 winners.
