Craig Hardie - Drumchapel AThe Premier League is developing into a two horse race with both Drumchapel A and North Ayrshire, current league champions, unbeaten. Drumchapel’s Craig Hardie is sitting top of the player averages and the Chris and Richie Main are in joint second, each having dropped one match. These teams clash at the beginning of the New Year and, like last year, the result of this match and the one at the end of the season will determine where the title ends up. Drumchpel B is also performing consistently thanks to the efforts of Calum Main, winning 83% of his games. Scott Barton of Drumchapel E has also performed well in his first season, registering a 70% win rate so far.

In Division 1 Knightswood have a clear lead (played 11 won 11) thanks to an impressive contribution from Sri Lankan International Hasitha Samaraweera who has won all his matches. He has been ably supported by the consistent efforts of Neil Doherty and Ian Hay, both recording over 70% in the averages. South Ayrshire is in second place, 32 points behind but with two games in hand and their leading player, Roy Claxton has dropped just two matches out of twenty four. There then comes a group of six teams separated by only six points and if one of these team begins to perform consistently they could establish themselves in the top three. With games in hand, Nomads A look the likeliest contenders. Other players who have performed well include Benedict Joos, Knightswood B and Adam Gaffney, 44th BB who have dropped just one and two matches respectively.

Calum Renton and Ross Grant - HolyroodIt’s all much closer in Division 2 with three teams fighting it out for the top spot. At the halfway stage, Holyrood have a lead of four points over Nomads B. Holyrood have won all their matches and have a mixture of experience and youth in their line up. Sinclair Houston has dropped one match from 21 and Ian Rhind just two from 24 but they have been well supported by their junior players Callum Renton and Ross Grant. Kevin Giddings and David Haddow have performed consistently for Nomads to keep the pressure on Holyrood. In third place Knightswood C are twelve points behind Holyrood but with a game in hand and have benefitted from the impressive performance of Martin Oestmann, who’s dropped just a single match from thirty outings.
North Ayrshire B, the third new team in the league and all junior players, have performed well and although they are in eleventh position they have won two matches and I’m sure they will add to this total in the New Year.
