West Open Day 2
Day 2 of the West of Scotland Open saw the junior events take place. This included Under 21’s, Under 18’s, Under 15’s and Under 13’s.
Under 21’s
Group 1 saw Ashley Robinson come out on top against Bethany Ross and Connor Moran. Connor was a 3-2 winner against Bethany. Group 2 was won by Dan O’Connell, beating Daniel Grant, Ross Grant and Kyle Adams. Daniel Grant was runner up. In Group 3 Conor Edwards caused a shock by beating number 3 seed Calum Main, as well as Rhian Williams and Alex Wheeler. Calum was runner up. Group 4 was won by Scott Barton who beat Lara Stirling and Karl Frey. Group 5 was won by Charlotte Cairey, beating Jamie Skelton and Duncan Smith. Jamie was runner up. Daniel Swiatek won Group 6 beating Chhloe Thomas, Jordan McGinley and Renee Ho. Chloe finished runner up. Angharad Phillips won Group 7 beating Andrew Grant, Andreas Frey and Natasha Milliken. Andreas was runner up. Group 8 was won by Megan Phillips with Colin Dalgleish being runner up. In Group 9 Lewis Williams beat Neil McDonald and Robbie Fairley.
In the preliminary rounds, Neil McDonald beat Lara Stirling 3-0 and Andreas Frey beat Jamie Skelton 3-0.
Round 1 saw Ashley Robinson beat Neil McDonald 3-0, Angharad Phillips beat Daniel Grant 3-0, Chloe Thomas beat Charlotte Cairey 3-2, Colin Dalgleish scored a good win against Conor Edwards 3-1, Scott Barton beat Connor Moran 3-0, Lewis Williams beat Megan Phillips 3-2, Calum Main beat Daniel Swiatek 3-1 and Dan O’Connell beat Andreas Frey 3-0.
In the quarter finals, Ashley Robinson was a 3-1 winner against Angharad Phillips, Colin Dalgleish beat Chloe Thomas, Scott Barton beat Lewis Williams and Dan O’Connell beat Calum Main 3-2.
In the semi finals, Ashley Robinson was a 3-0 winner against Coling Dalgleish (11-1, 11-5, 12-10). Scott Barton beat Dan O’Connell 3-1 (6-11, 11-8, 11-8, 11-5)
In the final, Scott Barton won his first title of the day beating Ashley Robinson 3-0 (11-9, 12-10, 11-8)
Junior Boys Singles
Ashley Robinson won Group 1 with wins against Daniel Grant and Jamie Skelton, Daniel Grant was runner up. Group 2 was won by Dan O’Connell beating James Kennedy and Thomas Cairns. James Kennedy was runner up. Group 3 was won by Calum Main, beating Connor Moran, Jonathan Bisp and David Marsh. Connor was runner up. Scott Barton won Group 4 beating Andrew MacPherson and Conor Edwards. Conor was runner up. Andreas Frey won Group 5 beating Daniel Swiatek and Stefan Jeczalik. Daniel was runner up. Colin Dalgleish won Group 6 beating Chris Wheeler, Ross Grant and Karl Frey, Chris was runner up. Lewis Williams won Group 7, beating Adam Gaffney, Alex Wheeler and Calum McNair. Alex was runner up. Ying Jin won Group 8 beating Chris Barclay, Robbie Fairley and Stephen Grimes. Group 9 was won by Neil McDonald beating Duncan Smith and Kyle Adams, Duncan was runner up. Group 10 was won by Blair Fowler beating Jordan McGinley and Jonathan Diack. Jordan was runner up.
In the preliminary rounds, Chris Wheeler was a 3-0 winner against Duncan Smith. Daniel Swiatek was a 3-0 winner against James Kennedy, Alex Wheeler beat Daniel Grant 3-1 and Connor Moran beat Jordan McGinley 3-2.
At the last 16 stage, Ashley Robinson beat Chris Wheeler 3-0, Conor Edwards beat Ying Jin 3-0, Lewis Williams beat Blair Fowler 3-1, Calum Main beat Daniel Swiatek 3-1, Scott Barton beat Alex Wheeler 3-1, Andreas Frey beat Neil McDonald 3-1, Colin Dalgleish beat Robbie Fairley 3-1 and Dan O’Connell beat Connor Moran 3-0.
The quarter finals saw Ashley Robinson beat Conor Edwards 3-2 (11-4, 11-8, 9-11, 10-12, 11-2). Calum Main beat Lewis Williams 3-1 (11-8, 11-5, 6-11, 11-5). Scott Barton beat Andreas Frey 3-0 (11-6, 11-6, 11-5) and Dan O’Connell beat Colin Dalgleish 3-0 (11-9, 11-6, 11-6).
In the semi finals, Ashley Robinson beat Calum Main 3-0 (11-8, 11-7, 11-7) and Scott Barton beat Dan O’Connell 3-0 (11-3, 11-7, 11-7)
In the final, Scott Barton added a 2nd title beating Ashley Robinson 3-1 (11-9, 10-12, 11-7, 14-12).
Junior Girls
Charlotte Cairey won Group 1 beating Bethany Ross, Renee Ho and Jill Taylor, Renee was runner up. Chloe Thomas won Group 2 beating Lara Stirling, Angharad Phillips and Kirsten Atkinson. Angharad was runner up. Megan Phillips won Group 3 beating Jennifer Hart and Rhian Willaims with Rhian being runner up.
In round 1, Angharad Phillips beat Megan Phillips 3-2 (11-5, 9-11, 11-8, 5-11, 11-4, and Renee Ho beat Rhian Williams 3-1 (11-6, 11-6, 9-11, 11-6).
In the semi finals, Charlotte Cairey beat Angharad Phillips 3-2 (11-7, 13-15, 11-7, 10-12, 13-11) and Chloe Thomas beat Renee Ho 3-0 (11-8, 11-7, 11-5).
In the final Chloe Thomas won a hard fought match against Charlotte Cairey 3-2 (7-11, 11-8, 11-9, 5-11, 11-9).
Cadet Boys
Group 1 was won by Lewis Williams beating Calum McNair, Yaser Razouk and Stephen Pisani, Yaser was runner up. Blair Fowler won Group 2 beating Karl Frey and Stefan Jeczalick, Karl was runner up. Chris Wheeler won Group 3 beating Oscar Wallantin, James Kennedy and Justin Yang. Justin was runner up. Group 4 was won by Conor Edwards beating Thomas Cairns, Andrew MacPherson and Jason Fleming. Thomas was runner up. Group 5 was won by Adam Gaffney beating Jonathan Bisp, James Bundy and John Hannah. Jonathan Bisp was runner up. Ying Jin won Group 6 beating Greg Robertson, Kyle Adams and Zaio Khalid. Kyle Adams was runner up. Andreas Frey won Group 7 beating Alistair Scott and Stephen Grimes, Stephen was runner up.
In round 1 both Lewis Williams and Blair Fowler received byes. Karl Frey beat Ying Jin 3-0, Adam Gaffney beat Justin Yang 3-0, Conor Edwards beat Stephen Grimes 3-1, Chris Wheeler beat Yaser Razouk 3-0, Andreas Frey beat Jonathan Bisp 3-0, Thomas Cairns beat Kyle Adams 3-2.
In the quarter finals, Lewis Williams beat Ying Jin 3-0, Conor Edwards beat Adam Gaffney 3-0, Chris Wheeler beat Andreas Frey 3-0 and Blair Fowler beat Thomas Cairns 3-0.
The Semi finals saw Conor Edwards beat Lewis Williams 3-1 (11-6, 8-11, 11-9, 11-5) and Blair Fowler beat Chris Wheeler 3-1 (11-8, 11-3, 11-5)
In the final Blair was a worthy winner beating Conor Edwards 3-1 (11-9, 6-11, 11-7, 13-11).
Cadet Girls
Group 1 was won by Charlotte Cairey beating Nadia Doherty and Kirsten Atkinson, Nadia was runner up. Group 2 was won by Lucy Elliott beating Fiona Scott and Caitlin Cameron, Fiona was runner up. Rachel Crawford won Group 3 beating Jill Taylor and Emma Rhind. Jill was runner up.
In the preliminary round, Fiona Scott was a 3-0 winner against Jill Taylor (11-5, 11-1, 11-7) and Rachel Crawford was a 3-0 winner against Nadia Doherty (11-2, 11-8, 11-7).
In the semi finals Charlotte Cairey was a 3-0 winner against Fiona Scott (11-2, 11-6, 11-6) and Lucy Elliott was a 3-0 winner against Rachel Crawford (11-8, 11-2, 12-10)
In the final, Charlotte was in top form beating Lucy Elliott 3-0 (11-1, 11-7, 11-1).
Minor Boys
Chris Wheeler won Group 1 beating Stewart Horsfall, Matthew Aitchison and Niall Hannah, with Stewart being runner up. Group 2 was won by Yaser Razouk, beating Greg Robertson and Andrew Bogle being runner up. Jamie McNie won Group 3 beating Justin Yang, Konnar Doyle and Zaid Khalid. Konnar was runner up. Jonathan Bisp was the winner of Group 4 beating Murray Raeburn, Calum Morrison and Stephen Pisani. Murray was runner up. John Hannah won Group 5 beating Jamie Arnott and Allan Woodhouse, Jamie was runner up.
In the preliminary round, Greg Robertson beat Jamie Arnott 3-0 and Murray Raeburn beat Stewart Horsfall 3-1.
In the quarter finals, Chris Wheeler beat Greg Robertson 3-0, Jonathan Bisp beat Konnar Doyle 3-2, John Hannah beat Jamie McNie 3-1 and Yaser Razouk beat Murray Raeburn 3-1.
The semi finals, Chris Wheeler beat Jonathan Bisp 3-0 (11-1, 11-2, 11-4) and John Hannah recorded a shock 3-1 win over Yaser Razouk (14-12, 12-10, 5-11, 11-9.
In the final, Chris was in great form to win 3-0 (11-2, 11-3, 11-3).
Minor Girls
Lucy Elliott won Group 1 beating Rebecca Plaistow 3-0, Rachel Crawford won Group 2 beating Nadia Doherty, Nina Agshar and Rebecca Melrose. Nadia was runner up. Group 3 was won by Fiona Scott, beating Imogen Evans, Emma Rhind and Alisa Khalid. Emma was runner up.
In the preliminary round, Nadia Doherty was a 3-2 winner against Emma Rhind (8-11, 11-9, 11-8, 7-11, 11-7) and Fiona Scott was a 3-0 winner against Rebecca Plaistow (11-5, 11-3, 11-6)
