Drum Grand Prix

The Drumchapel Junior Grand Prix Series got underway on Perth SquadSaturday 3rd November 2007 at Drumchapel Sports Centre. This competition is the first of 5 and it was the first competitive experience for a number of players including those from the Drumchapel TT Schools Development. Squads from North Ayrshire and Perth also took part.

Three age group events took place: Minor (Under 13), Cadet (Under 15) and Junior (Under 18)

Minor

The semi finals brought together Drumchapel’s Duncan Smith against North Ayrshire’s Andrew Macpherson. Duncan, after losing the first set, won the next three  for a 3-1 progression to the final. The other semi final resulted in a 3-0 win for Connor Moran (Drumchapel) over Stuart Lewis (North Ayrshire). Duncan proved to have too much experience in the final for Connor and secured his first singles title (I think) with a 3-0 winning margin.

Cadet

Duncan & ConnorDuncan Smith clearly enjoyed that winning feeling because he then picked up his second title of the day with a repeat win against Connor Moran in the Cadet final. North Ayrshire’s  Andrew Macpherson and Chris Barclay both did well to reach the semi final losing to Duncan and Connor respectively.

Juniors

The semi finals brought together four of Drumchapel’s top Sean & Nathanjuniors. Sean Doherty won through to the final with a 3-0 win over Stephanie McCallum and Nathan Courtney joined him with an impressive win (11-7 in the fifth) over Natasha Milliken.

Sean, justifying his seeding, secured the Junior Title with a winning margin of three games to one over Nathan.

The next Grand Prix will be held on the Saturday, 22nd December. Put it in your diary.
