West of Scotland Table Tennis League
News
WoSTTL AGM
20 May 2007

It was standing room only at this year’s AGM when an impressive number of players turned up at Drumchapel, well maybe not quite but I’m sure I spotted Phil McCallum getting more chairs.

The meeting began with the office bearers` reports and Liam Hughes kicked this off with a short report about his role as secretary explaining that he was responsible for agendas and minutes of the six meetings arranged throughout the season as well as, this year, writing a Child Protection Policy for the League.

Michael Schoenhofen then summarised his experience as Match Secretary with the main issue being the number of postponed matches towards the end of the season. With two leagues of twelve, combined with fitting in cup matches he pointed out that there was little room for manoeuvre. A number of questions were asked relating to next year’s league format. Michael explained that we could end up with three leagues of eight if any new teams join the league. Watch this space.

Sinclair Houston produced a set of audited accounts and reported a healthy surplus this year.

Phil McCallum (League Coordinator) then produced a very comprehensive development report and here is a short extract from it:

National Champions
The West of Scotland has 4 National Champions:

George Johnston – over 60’s Champion
Corinna Whitaker – National Junior Girls Champion
Natasha Milliken – National Cadet Girls Champion
Craig Hardie – National Junior Doubles Champion

We also have three Junior player ranked number 1 in the National Rankings:

Natasha Milliken – Cadet Girls
Sean Doherty – Cadet Boys
Corinna Whitaker – Junior Girls

Congratulations to all.

International Selections
Three players have been selected to represent Scotland at the up and coming Commonwealth Table Tennis Championships in India – Gordon Clancey, Corinna Whitaker and Natasha Milliken.

West of Scotland Junior League
There were three divisions this year which justified the move from Drumchapel to Holyrood. It involved around 70 players and produced a great atmosphere for the players with many spectators turning up for the four league dates and to the inaugural West Junior Closed.

Inter League
We had 14 teams competing in all the categories, winning two (Mens and Junior Girls) and runners up in four (Minor, Cadet and Junior Boys and Veterans)

A busy year, with an increase in the number of competitions and in the number of players participating – 110 seniors and 74 juniors, making the West the largest league in Scotland.

The meeting finished with the news that our current Chairman, Terry McBride, is standing down and that Terry McLernon is taking his place. On behalf of the league our new chairman expressed thanks to Terry McBride for his time and effort over the last few years.
