Liam McKeating

It is with sadness that I report the death of Liam McKeating.

Liam, a former Chairman of the West of Scotland League and Honorary Member of Table Tennis Scotland, was probably best known for his connection to Knightswood Table Tennis Club, which I understand lasted over 50 years. He started there as a player but quickly took over the running of the club and played a major role in it winning many league and cup titles. His style was to work quietly in the background but his contribution and impact was enormous. In 2009, the Sports Council for Glasgow marked its 30th Anniversary by honouring the contributions of sports volunteers in the city and Liam received a special award for his outstanding service to Table Tennis in the City.

He was a great advocate of player development and was always very willing to volunteer his time and resources to support players attend tournaments and coaching sessions. Liam wasn’t only interested in his own club and was a stalwart member of the West of Scotland League, serving on the Executive Committee for many years and also supported it in a wide variety of ways.  He was very generous with his time and support and I know that many West of Scotland and Glasgow Open tournaments’ success was thanks to Liam’s efforts. He will be sadly missed.

Our sincere sympathies go to Liam’s family.
