Premier League Week 3
Drumchapel A 5-0 Holyrood

Terry McLernon jnrLeague leaders Drumchapel A set out their stall at the start of this match with a proficient 3-1 win from Craig Hardie against a rather rusty looking David Thomas (not sure if this is related to age or lack of match practice Davie). The ever youthful Sinclair Houston (reporter’s privilege) then showed some resistance but Terry McLernon Jnr came through in four closely contested ends. Craig and Terry then secured the doubles 11-7, 12-10, 11-9 and Craig followed this up with a three straight win against Sinclair. Terry tied up the five points with a similar score against Davie. This win places Drumchapel A firmly at the top of the league having dropped only two points from a possible 15 - an impressive start.

Drumchapel B 4-1 Drumchapel C

Sean Doherty got proceedings underway for Drum B with aDaniel Swaitek straightforward 3-0 win against Stephanie McCallum. Sam Toledo, making his debut in this league, came up against a very determined Corinna Whitaker of Drum C who secured a three games to one victory in what must be one of her best results. Daniel Swiatek then joined Sean in the doubles and they restored Drum B’s lead with a three nil win – 8, 6, 8. Corinna, again displaying some fine form, then secured the first set against Sean 11-3, who then came back strongly winning the next three 10, 6 and 9. Daniel secured the four points for the B team with a comfortable win over Stephanie.

North Ayrshire 5-0 Greenock

Richard MainIn the match of the night, North Ayrshire again put down a marker to warn Drumchapel A that their challenge for the title is deadly serious. Richard Main got Ayrshire off to the best of starts with a very impressive win against the experienced Callum Gerrard. Chris then followed this up with a solid 3-1 against Malcolm Hutton. The doubles produced the closest match but the Main brothers, 2-0 down, rattled off the next three 7, 6 and 9. North Ayrshire 3, Greenock 0. Richard continued to produce the goods winning the first end against Malky 14-12, losing the second 7-11, but winning the next two ends 11-4, 11-4. Chris then matched his brother’s game score against Callum to secure the five points. North Ayrshire is in second place, only one point behind Drum A. These two teams meet in the next match which could well decide the destination of the league title.

Drumchapel Vets 3-2 GSC A

Unfortunately the Glasgow Student’s Collective turned up with one Tam Lawlorplayer, Jersey’s Paul Marshall. Tam Lawlor started off well against Paul, winning the first game 12-10 but lost the next three 8, 7, 8. Peter Cameron then took his turn against Paul and appeared to take the first two to get used to his opponent’s speed, but then in a closely fought third end just lost out 12-14.
